Peer Mentoring Training
What is a Peer Mentor?
After medical care and therapies, there can be a gap into the unknown for individuals with a spinal cord injury/disorder who are re-entering the community. A peer mentor is someone who can bridge that gap. They have successfully adjusted to living with a spinal cord injury/disorder and can provide insight into what life may look like in the community and share stories of their life experience to offer a glimpse into living with a disability.
Who Can Become a Peer Mentor?
- Individuals at least 1-year post-injury
How Do You Train to Be a Peer Mentor?
It’s a two-step process:
- Step One — Complete an online course on your own (about 45 to 60 minutes). THIS MUST BE DONE before step two.
- Step Two — Participate in a group, 4-hour Zoom training that includes discussions, role-playing, and time for Q & A. The next Zoom training session will be Saturday, May 16, 12–4 PM.
How Do You Get Started?
Fill out the form to get registered for training. As soon as the Step One online course becomes available, you’ll receive an email with a link to it. One to two weeks before Saturday, May 16, you’ll be emailed the Zoom link for the group training (Step Two).
